OLMECHA SUPREME Legendary emcee, producer and multi-instrumentalist Captain Imon Starr drives his latest project Olmecha Supreme to the extremes of musical greatness. Self-exiled US citizen and son of legendary blues musician Taj Mahal, Imon has been living and producing music in Aotearoa for the past seven years. Olmecha Supreme live delivers a dramatic and high-energy performance of mesmerizing, live afro-futuristic roots music, transforming even the shyest of peoples into dancing machines.

Fusing the traditional Afro-rhythms of roots, rock, reggae, hip-hop, soul, funk and afro-beat, Olmecha takes the audience to a place of pure soul-filled enjoyment. The Olmech’s have a solid reputation for stunning live performances, such as opening for hip-hop legends De La Soul and a mind blowing opener for Tanya Stephens and Junior Kelly at Soundsplash 08.

Starr has worked with numerous NZ outfits including the Home Bass and Freeloader
Crew's radio shows, The Roots Foundation and as Rhombus' iconic front man Murkwon. He has also recorded with Taj Mahal, Deva Mahal, Cedella Marley-Booker (Bob Marley’s mother), Del Ray System, The Submariner and The Feelstyle.

THE NOMAD Multi-talented with achievements to match, The Nomad (Daimon Schwalger) has taken the road less-travelled in search of the good groove. The internationally-renown and critically acclaimed DJ / producer has crafted a significant and successful career for more than a decade both behind the decks and in control of his production studio, having released five albums to date – with a sixth due for release later in 2007.

Beginning in 1993 in Dunedin, New Zealand, Schwalger has turned a passion for new music into a profession that has seen him DJ sell-out crowds around the world. In addition, Schwalger runs record label Fresh Produce, equipped with his own music studio, and teaches music production to the next generation of New Zealand’s musicians and producers.


The Nomad’s first album Movement, released in 1998 caught the attention of British dance music greats Rockers Hi Fi (Different Drummer, UK) to begin a partnership that spanned across subsequent releases.

MYSTIC BEATS Mystic Beats has been generating a following as a down tempo dance electronic outfit, fusing eastern influenced instrumentation with contemporary styles. Mystic Beats merges originally composed electronic grooves and a smooth blend of sitar, sarengi, guitar, tabla, jaw harp, oud, vocals and percussion. Deep dub, psy soundscapes and conscious beats combined with soaring melodies and percussive grooves, create a unique improvised live performance.
MISTA LANEOUS Who is Laneous? Mr Laneous is a soul singer/master of ceremonies born one minute’s walk from where he lives. The enigmatic Brisbane artist is often described as a soul singer of vintage, comparable to the great Al Green, Otis Redding and Curtis Mayfield. Mr Laneous has played a staggering number of shows and festivals as a founding member of Kafka and guest artist with such acts as Kooii, The Dynamic Thrills and Dubdoubt. He is now concentrating on fronting his own all-star band ‘the Family- Yah’, a superb contemporary outfit with a great ability to bring to life Laneous’s unique R’n’B and Urban Soul sound.
RUDEKAT SOUND SYSTEM RudeKat SoundSystem is the Deejay branch of Rudekat Records – Brisbane’s independent reggae, dub and soul music label. The SoundSystem play a selection of vintage Jamaican ska, rocksteady, dub, conscious roots and the latest dancehall reggae and basement styles from around the world – ensuring a varied flow of tunes to suit the mood, hour and venue.
ZENNITH Australian ‘roots’ has finally matured, with the deepest reggae splash and funkiest urban swing that is Zennith. From the deep scrub of Bulwai country in Kuranda, Far North Queensland, emerges a sound that fuses skankin’ rainforest reggae with funky hip-hop. They are the new future of roots and indigenous music from down-under, kickin’ stereo types and rockin’ dance floors. Fresh from playing major festivals such as Woodford, Island Time, and the Dreaming, Zennith typify the meaning of Kuarnda Roots.
